63 rue Jean Pierre Timbaud, Paris, Oberkampf, 75011, France

Au Petite Garage offers manna for the rock 'n roll set with its gritty atmosphere and awesome music. They play loud rock all night, sell cheap drinks, and all of the furniture is vintage, mismatched, and losing stuffing. The place is rarely crowded, so it still feels off the beaten track.

Good Times

Been to APG about three times and I agree with daisysiren that it's NOT A METAL bar. It's a rock-n-roll bar at best. Heard AC/DC, The Kinks, some Sabbath, and that's about all I can remember. Best time I had was on a Sunday afternoon where you end up talking to just about anyone in there. The bartenders are super friendly and accommodating. Was there on a Friday and Saturday night and it was a bit crowded for my taste. Overall bars on Rue J.P. Thimbaud are good times -- also U.F.O. down the street was playin' some serious jams! Check out Au Petit Garage and just check out the area in general, you can't go wrong.

Not a glimpse of metal in this place...

We dragged ourselves across town to find this metal bar and were so disappointed... outside looked promising but we walked in to The Beatles, The Kinks then a whole torrent of modern indie. The crowd were not even remotely metal, mostly very young students with silly hair sat in groups. Yeah the furniture is scruffy and it has a student feel about it, but there's nothing metal about this place and the beer was just as expensive as everywhere else in Paris. The best place we found was in the Latin Quarter, a tiny little bar with an open front that has a happy hour 5-10pm all week long. A pint of Leffe Rubis was £2.50 and we got to listen to some awesome 90's metal. If I find out the name of it I'll post a review on here...

Great local bar with cool people

This was a great little place located in a neighbourhood that a lot of people told me is a good place to stay. It's an area that a lot of students go out in, and the cost of beers I thought were cheaper than a lot of other places in Paris, which in general is outrageously overpriced. Small bar with rickety funiture but that's what makes it great, kind of punk- style. The music is mainly rockabilly/rock n roll, with a bit of Sabbath thrown in. Happy hour is from 5pm - 9pm, and the bar staff and patrons are all friendly, it's so easy to get talking to people in there.
