It started out playing mostly classic stuff, which was great music-wise (when the PA is working anyways) but since then it's almost as if the DJ has been spending all week downloading anything and everything from Kerrang TV and playing it just because he thinks its the rite stuff to play (result = empty dancefloor, not that its often fullanyway). Some of the downloads are terrible quality (that's how you can tell theyer downloaded) and I swear one track jumped all over the place like an incomplete Soulseek download the other week.
Numbers seem to vary from busy when the other Cardiff Rock night (Bogiez) isn't on to dead quiet when it is. It's also opened on Tuesdays (fuck knows why, there's already two Tuesday metal clubs which are way better than Fuel) and from what I've heard it has about ten or so people in.
If they want to improve this they really should get some decent DJs in. Ones who own their own CDs and dont rely on crappy downloads, granted a lot of Cardiff DJs play the same stuff every week but why not go back to every fortnight and ask the guy from Bogiez to come play (the one in the hat) as he at least understands the music hes playing or if not then maybe one of the old Inferno DJs from the old days, they really knew their stuff.
My best advice: Steer clear unless it gets better.

the second time i went was for a mates birthday, the music was nearly exactly the same and i mean the same tracks from the last time.
the venue is pretty cool, dark and grimeybut the fact its underneath a hotel and the bar is half tiny just doesnt fit. walking through town which your forced to do because of its location is also not something i choose to do with all the drunken chavs spilling out of clubs up for causing hassle.
not saying i wont go again but id only go if i had absolutely no where else to go on a saturday. also this whole thing about 'celebrities' being in the venue, who gives a crap? its about the music and i couldnt care who i'd meet there. tigertailz are often in rock nights in town, dirty sanchez ive seen in cardiff and newport on a night out. im pretty sure none of the bands listed on their website as 'approved by' dont actually approve of this night...why should they, there is nothing to approve.
dont get me wrong im all for supporting rock nights in cardiff, but not when it seems to me like they dont have a clue what they are doing.

Anyway, I\'ve been to Fuel quite a bit over the last year or so. It aint bad if you like 80\'s rock, as thats pretty much all they cater for so dont go if u wanna hear anything new (as someone mentioned below, even Metros plays less samey music than Fuel does). Bar is pretty small but theres never too much of a queue as its not been very busy when weve been and the drinks prices are v.pricey. More like a bar than a club really. Even so, occasionally worth a visit.
Can be funny as they have loads of technical problems. Sometimes the entire club even loses power. LOL
